Off The Road
Gwellheans is a registered training facility with the Auto-Cycle Union, the British Motorcycle Sport and Leisure Governing body. This has allowed us to set up Off The Road, which is an exciting group centred around off road motorcycles.
This course is run by a qualified motorcycle mechanic and ACU licensed coach and runs for 14 weeks. It is a mixture of classroom theory, workshop practice, and off road riding, and on completion of the course clients are also able to take a CBT test (Compulsory Basic Training) which allows them to ride a motorcycle on the roads.
While clients spend time learning about important aspects of Health & Safety and the internal workings of an off road motorcycle, they also get to put their new found knowledge to practice in the workshop. This involves learning how to take a bike apart, put it back together, and learn all about motorcycle repair and maintenance. During this time, clients get to undertake a number of increasingly challenging off road motorcycle trials in the lovely Cornish countryside.
Clients who have completed this course have said that they felt their confidence, motivation, fitness, and social skills had all improved and was very beneficial to their recovery. As well as learning useful new skills, clients can get to work as part of a team and have fun!
It's not just for boys! Lots of our female clients join this group too and have really enjoyed it!
